Our 5-year-old adirondack chairs were badly weathered, but otherwise in good structural condition. I sanded them down and used Rust-Oleum dark hunter green enamel spray paint to make them look brand new. I finished the job with Rust-Oleum clear spray enamel coating for extra protection. The results are spectacular! Considering how expensive new adirondack chairs are, I believe I saved about $2,000!!

Materials
electric sander and sand paper
large painters tarp
hand sander
Rust-Oleum dark hunter green enamel spray paint
Rust-Oleum clear enamel spray coating
Project Steps
prepared an area that was well ventilated in our deck and used as my work space.
I rented an electric sander to strip the chairs down.
I used a hand sander to get at the nuances in the chair and create a super-fine/soft finish.
Sprayed each chair with Rus-Oleum dark hunter green enamel spray paint. It took about four cans per chair for complete coating. Let dry overnight.
Once dry, I softly sanded the arms again and spray painted them again. This gave the arms an extra soft feel.
Once dry, I finished with a coat of Rust-Oleum clear enamel spray coating. Let dry overnight
Put the cushions on and enjoy the accolades from friends and family!
