Here are a few tricks to make that paint job a bit more bareable!

1. Don't Dip that Brush - more than a third or so of the way into the paint. Excess paint won't speed the process, but will clog the base of the bristles, making cleanup more difficult and shortening the life of the brush.

2. Rim Clean Up - Clean the rim of the paint can with a screw driver wrapped in a rag. If you have paint in the groove, you won't be able to seal the top tightly. Air will seep in and leave a skin like coating in the paint, causing the paint to have granules and knots which will not go on smooth over your surface.

3. Label Your Can - Cover the open can with plastic wrap to create a clean seal, pound the lid with a hammer. Dab a little paint on the lid with a rag to show the color. Most paints now come with a top label listing the color, sheen and tinting information already adhered to the lid.

4. Seal It Up - Store your paint cans upside down to create a tight seal around the lid. Be sure to store latex based paints where they won't freeze, since they are water-based.

5. Bag That Roller - If you need to apply a second or third coat - or just simply have no time to clean up right away, place your roller cover in a Ziploc Bag and store it in the refrigerator or a cool spot during painting breaks (or overnight). Be sure there is no excess air in the bag - the air will dry out the paint.
